She used to be a small little fox, she was a magic being without knowing it, and lived a happy normal life in a snowfox village. However, one cold winter evening, a demon showed up and in it's search for power and the magic of immortality, he destroyed the entire village, killing mercilessly anyone in his path.Due to her magical properties, she managed to resist the demon's evil magic and escaped, albeit with a great many injuries. Running through the snow for miles on end, hoping to escape from the demon, she passed out from wounds and exhaustion.

Luckily, the next morning, a wise old temple monk found her, rescued her and nurtured her back to health. After she got better, the monk asked for her name, but she didn't have one. He asked her where she came from, but she did not know, it would appear she had lost all of her memories.

After a while, he bestowed her with a name "美冬" Mi Fuyu - Mifuyu, Beautiful winter, for she was as beautiful as the winter surrounding the shrine.Given how she had no home to go back to, the monk decided to take her in and train her to become a shrine maiden, until eventually she would tap into her previously unknown magical powers and refine them.

Over the years, her power grew greatly and she gained many abilities, like shapeshifting, and probably one of the most envious powers of all - decelerated aging. However, there was one very strict rule the monk had set for her – never use your magic for hurting people, only use it for good.
After several years, with Mifuyu's powers now developed, she was given permission to leave the shrine and venture to surrounding places on her own. There she would see the life of other people, men and women who work and children who play and go to school, and very quickly she would grow accustomed to the locals as the monk had raised her with a lot of love. She was nothing but polite, charismatic and outgoing and everyone was quick to love her.

Unfortunately, one day, a demon would strike again. The very same demon which had destroyed Mifuyu's village many years ago, however this time it wasn't a snowfox village he attacked, but rather a human village.
Sensing an evil presence, Mifuyu rushed to the village without even consulting the monk, and quickly stood face to face with the demon. For the first time ever, she felt the unsettling aura of evil magic.Although not their first encounter, neither knew each other. She tried to plead with the demon to stop, but he was unresponsive. Without listening, he was destroying and killing anyone who would stand in his way, just like he did many years ago.

Although not their first encounter, neither knew each other. She tried to plead with the demon to stop, but he was unresponsive. Without listening, he was destroying and killing anyone who would stand in his way, just like he did many years ago.

No longer being able to stand on the side, Mifuyu decided to use her magic for the first time ever to fight someone. It was a rule not to use her magic to hurt others, but also to use it only for good, and this was for the good of the people, her friends and the village she had grown accustomed to.
A fight quickly ensued. Danmaku was flying everywhere, but a young shrine maiden would soon discover that she was no match for a powerful, bloodthirsty demon.
In a nick of time, the old monk had appeared and would go on to fight. While able to put up a better fight, with his age he was also no match for the demon, so he did one last thing he could – if he can't kill him, he can only seal him away. Using a powerful seal for detaining evil monsters and spirits, the demon was incapacitated, but only temporarily.

Back at the shrine, the monk would explain that the demon was formerly one of the monks at the shrine and a student. A very kind and loving man who would help anyone in need would over the years grow more and more corrupted by the dark magic and lust for power, which in turn got him banned from the shrine. With time, he would obsess over one thing – immortality. The dark magic had corrupted him to the point where he became a monster, taking a toll on his physical appearance and turning him into an actual demon.
The monk would also tell Mifuyu about the village she came from, and how it got destroyed by the demon. It was the monk who sealed away the demon all those years ago after he discovered what he had done to the village. Consequently, it was the entire reason he was able to find Mifuyu. She was the only survivor. Now the demon has managed to break free and has come back. This time not seeking immortality, but rather, in his fury, seeking revenge upon his old master. The monk would go on to tell how the very same student was his own greatest failure. He blamed himself for letting his own student get corrupted by the evil magic and took it upon himself to never allow something like that to happen to Mifuyu. While the demon was sealed away once again, it was apparent that the seal would not hold as long as it did before. The demon had grown much stronger while the monk had grown weaker and older, the seal, which was already taking strain on the monk's body, could only hold up for a few weeks maybe, before the demon would break out again.

The monk suggested for Mifuyu to run away and hide from the demon, but she refused and stood her ground. She did not want to leave her old master, who had saved her, raised her and given her a home. She would not abandon him. She was stubborn. In his old age the monk could not put up much of a fight against her, so instead he decided to train her, train her like he had never done before. He would teach her about deadly magic which was used by the monks for generations to fend off evil spirits and monsters that would attack the shrine. Although reluctant, as he didn't want for Mifuyu to be an active magic user, but rather live a normal life, it became clear to the monk that a fight against the demon was inevitable. The monk had trained Mifuyu for a month, for that was the longest he could hold up the seal, but she became more powerful than ever before. Only a month of training had made her more powerful than all those years of service at the shrine had made her.

After the seal was broken, it didn't take too long for the demon to find the shrine.
With his developed powers, he easily broke the protective barrier. A monk had pleaded with him to stop and go away, but he refused. After all, there was nothing he could do.So the monk and Mifuyu had no choice but to fight the demon, once again. With her new powers, Mifuyu was able to put up much more of a fight than before, however the demon still gained the upper hand and injured her, rendering her unable to fight, which only left the monk to fight alone. But the old monk could not fight alone for long, not anymore in his old age. Shortly after, the demon managed to mortally wound the monk, right in front of Mifuyu's eyes.

Seeing the death of her old master, and a parent figure right before her eyes, and the demon maniacally laughing, she felt a different kind of emotion. Not just sadness, not just grieving, and not anger for the loss of her master. It was hate, she felt pure hatred towards a monster which had mercilessly killed and hurt so many people, and now her master, the only person she loved. In a fit of rage, combined with a strong feeling of hate and lust for revenge, Mifuyu stood up, not caring for her injuries anymore, not caring about anything anymore. The only thing on her mind right now was revenge, murder.

With her newfound strength, her eyes turned from green to blood red, and her hair from snowy white to pure black. The power she held had consumed her, she no longer controlled her own power, but rather her power was controlling her. In her anger she was using dark magic, no different from the one the demon was using, and once again, her powers had grown exponentially, charging in battle with no regard for anything anymore, she was not holding back at all, and in an epic clash of two evil powers she managed to finally gain an upper hand on the demon, mortally wounding him in a similar fashion he had wounded her (their) master.Lying on the ground, the demon was now helpless, and as Mifuyu was about to deliver a finishing blow, all of a sudden she stopped. She realized she was being consumed by the very same power the demon was. It wasn't lust for power that was driving her, but lust for revenge. However, if she allowed her negative emotions to influence her actions, she could never go back. Now it became clear to her why the monk was reluctant to give her extensive training in magic and wanted her to live a normal life. She did not want to become his second failure. Instead of killing the demon, she decided to show him mercy, something he did not know of. Her appearance had turned back to normal, she was Mifuyu once again.
Just as she turned her back on him, the demon smirked and uttered the words: „mistake“ and shot a powerful blast at her.It was a hard fight trying to battle the demon without letting her emotions go wild and now she was slowly seeing the end, her defeat.
In the brink of the moment, Kindred spirits, also attracted to her pain, approached her, with the goal of protecting and helping her recover. They were the protector spirits of the shrine and though they would usually never show themselves to the outer world, seeing how their master and head of the shrine, the monk had died, and they were about to lose everything precious to them, they decided to finally venture out into the world and help Mifuyu, their last hope, with all of the power they had. Although not warriors or fighters, the shrine spirits, kikos, possessed powers akin to the monk, and while individually not very powerful, in great numbers they stood together to protect Mifuyu and managed to overpower the now injured demon. The all-powerful demon would not allow himself to be defeated by everything he stood against, so his only course of action was to escape, but not before giving a warning that he would return for revenge. It was a threat and a promise. With the demon gone, Mifuyu and Kikos rushed over to the monk, who was giving out his last breath. Crying over him, she was overwhelmed by grief, partially because she knew she was about to lose her beloved master and partially because she had failed him and went against his teachings. As she was leaning over him, she could hear him whisper his last words before leaving his mortal body forever: „There is still hope“.
Although unsure what the monk meant by those words, in her grieving it motivated her to get up and prepare for one more battle, because the threat of the demon was still clear and present. While the monk was now amongst the spirits, his body still deserved a proper tomb. In the aftermath of the battle, Mifuyu saw that the shrine was destroyed, but the sad fact is that it wasn't the demon who had destroyed it, it was Mifuyu in her fit of rage and uncontrollable newfound power, not only did she direct her attacks at the demon but at her surroundings as well. Mifuyu was set on rebuilding the shrine, but not before raising a tomb for her fallen master out of the remnants of the shrine. It's the least she could do for now. After the burial, Mifuyu immediately wanted to get back to rebuilding the shrine. However, that was not an option now, given how time was of the essence, she had to prepare for the final battle.

She started practicing with magic, in hopes of getting stronger and more skilled, however the spirits of the shrine, kikos, would go on to tell her that was not the kind of training she had to do. If she wanted to defeat the demon, the great evil, she had to defeat the great evil within herself first, not allow for the lust for vengeance or hatred to take over her again.Sitting in the middle of the ruined shrine, she began to meditate, and look deep inside her heart. That is where she would face herself, her own evil, her own negative thoughts and desires, for only pure good can defeat pure evil, you can not combat evil with evil.In a deep state of trance, in the depths of her mind, she could see herself. She was standing right in front of herself, but her hair was black and her eyes were red, just as Mifuyu had looked like during the battle earlier. It was a manifestation of her dark magic which she had awoken. The ensuing battle would be with herself. It is easy to embrace the negative emotions, as it's a path of lesser resistance, a way to run away from who you are and darkness will embrace darkness. The dire battle that went on for what seemed like days on end between herself, in an endless white void, was beginning to look hopeless. As the darker side appeared to become stronger, quicker over time and after a long battle, Mifuyu would be beaten to the ground, unable to get up anymore. In the darkest hour, just as she thought it was all over, and hope was lost, a black approaching figure had turned to an old man in white clothes. It was the spirit of the old monk, sending his final farewell to his shrine maiden. He would go on to tell her how she needed to let go of all of the grieving and repressed hatred she had towards the person who killed him. Forgiveness is the key, as only people who can rise above any kind of hatred, anger and fury are stronger than the people indulging themselves in the same. That is what he taught her, that is how she was raised. After finally coming to peace with such a realization,
Mifuyu was able to, once again, get up and destroy the evil within herself.
She was now a fully good-aligned kitsune.Back in the real world, after a battle which seemed to have lasted for days, it would appear that only one day had actually passed, and all of the kikos around the shrine had disappeared. They were no longer necessary as Mifuyu was finally able to face the demon by herself. This time she would be the one going after him and not the other way around, as she could sense him, her powers had risen to the levels where she could find him instantly, but the demon was expecting her, he was ready.

After the battle, Manfuyu would seek forgiveness from Mifuyu and had sworn to do everything he could in order to redeem himself. He wanted to start all over again. Although still not fully over her master's death, she remembered his words and would go on to forgive him.
Going back to the shrine ruins, both Mifuyu and Manfuyu decided to rebuild the shrine back to its former glory, and maintain the tomb of the old monk. For years, Mifuyu would serve as a shrine Maiden, maintaining it, and granting wishes to its attendants. Manfuyu would be helping various people across towns and villages as well as help fight off evil spirits, in hopes of redeeming himself as he had promised. After a long period of time, there were far less evil spirits in this world, and the threat was greatly reduced, and with the development of technology fewer and fewer people would visit the shrine, given how their problems weren't materialistic anymore but rather existential.
With modern technology, Mifuyu decided to indulge herself in the wonders of life, and as a shrine maiden set out to help many people, she decided to reach out to as many people as she could through the power of the internet and decided to stream and spend her days with a community that she loved. And continued to spread happiness and positivity alongside her now significant other, her soulmate Manfuyu.
